Quadrivial Quandary: Logophiles, Rejoice! Each day we give you four unusual words. Can you fit them all in one illustrative sentence?
Quandary Resolution 3071
stupefy, garçonnière, bower, hacienda

"This bread needs some butter, and perhaps a bit of garçonnière," suggested Ludek; and I stared at him in stupefied horror, for in that instant it became clear to me he was an alien--not only because he didn't know what a garçonnière was, but also because the walls of his bower had begun to glisten with a glaucous iridescent slime, and indeed his entire hacienda sprouted the most bizarre and otherworldly vegetation; plus he looked like a gigantic praying-mantis (a foible I had, until that moment, chalked up to a Kafkaesque genetic deformity, and spurned to mention, out of politeness).
