Quadrivial Quandary: Logophiles, Rejoice! Each day we give you four unusual words. Can you fit them all in one illustrative sentence?
Quandary Resolution 3989
precis, bowdlerize, mettlesome, foible

After Tolstoy first submitted the manuscript for War and Peace, his publisher wrote back with two flippant requests "to fix some foibles in the draft", one that the character of Pierre be made less diffident and more mettlesome, and two that large sections be bowdlerized to turn the book into a twenty page precis or "the flimsiest pamphlet your excellency can possibly imagine".
