The shaman put his faith in an amygdaliform inscribed stone which he believed had mystical powers, and claimed that it directed the tribespeople to invest their time and energy in the icarian task of building a weir across the river to prevent flooding downstream, but the numen of the waters felt otherwise, and soon the rains and winds of the winter storms had breached the dam.
