A widely followed book reviewer erroneously ascribed the authorship of Memoirs of a Cenobite to Desmondo Tolstoy, the famed author of Lethargy and Privity, an unfortunate pseudepigraphy which led the whimsical Tolstoy to teach his creative writing class for a week attired in a monk's superannuated hooded robe and carrying all sorts of liturgical realia.
