For years he toiled in the minors, a switch-hitter, ambidextrous even in the field but never quite good enough to make the show, until, later in his life he got his chance as a manager and there, a splenetic little man who seemed suddenly to develop prosopagnosia, unable to recognize the faces of even his closest minor league associates; we marveled at the transformation until a percipient Red-Sox wag shrugged it off to his turning to the dark-side, an evil-empire in New York.
