If I had been more of a doubting Thomas when Galileo first spun his tale of spinning orbs, I would not decamping for England now; he is famous, and his prison is gilded, but in this milieu, the trapdoor of an oubliette would be the best I could expect, a trapdoor and a rope a more likely ending.
