His long-established agoraphobia made it difficult for Dr. Stone to leave the frowsty comfort of his study fireside to do Christmas shopping (in fact for many years he had ended up ordering gifts in a sadly arbitrary way from catalogs at the last possible minute), but this year, his dolor ameliorated somewhat by the unexpected inheritance of forty million dollars, he ventured boldly forth.
