With just about every subject, he proves to be gregarious and if not the leader, certainly an important part of the crowd; but sometimes, among the colliers from his mine-worker hometown in West Virginia or his flock of mine-clearers on the battlefield, where he is their sky pilot, he morphs into a crazy isolato when the conversation turns to architecture or when he visits his friends’ farm houses or barracks and notices their bare ceiling corners; that's when he seems to start speaking in tongues, yelling, spitting in rage about the esthetic urgency for crown moldings.
