As he attempted to collect some dulse for dinner, preoccupied with his responsibility of deciding Iceland’s religion, Thorgeir slipped and fell into the sea; the underwater struggle that ensued would be his baptism of fire, for the next day, despite his astraphobia, from atop the law-rock that lay along the treeless expanse of the continental divide, he declared Iceland a Christian nation, and promptly tossed statues of pagan gods into the clinquant waterfall, known today as Godafoss.
