Quandary Resolution 5445
intransigent, orgulous, wangle, antebellum

Ethel McBride was a classic example of the antebellum aristocracy – orgulous and intransigent, convinced that she and her class still ruled the world and that nothing in the way she conducted her life needed to change, despite the Civil War and 150 intervening years, and if she had to wangle her way through the 21st century in order to survive by ignoring or twisting anything that disagreed with her world view, then she would proceed to do so.
