Quandary Resolution 5502
higgledy-piggledy, nunatak, parvenu, maw

Jeremy was a parvenu in the world of mountaineering, rising to a position of prominence after a chance meeting with Sir Ed’s family, but his new-found power caused him to be reckless and take shortcuts when he assured a group of relative newbies that they could easily ascend the glaciers surrounding a nearby nunatak, but when those in the lead suddenly found themselves peering into the maw of an uncharted crevasse, they stepped back slowly from the edge, descended to relatively flat ground, and ran higgledy-piggledy --  despite their crampons and other equipment -- back to camp.
