I used to trust the vatic pronouncements of my psychic, but she was wrong too many times about my fortune, and when she insisted that I “go the extra mile” to avoid unlucky numbers, I got fed up and started to avoid triskaidekaphobes like her, warding them off with a talisman that I wear around my neck now, my own lapidary creation, the number thirteen carved in amethyst.
