There appeared to his friends to be a serious lacuna in the landowner’s ambition, i.e. to lave the Augean stable of his horribly contaminated water supply through the sedulous labors of dragooned transmontane hillbillies, down on their luck but not up on the niceties of completing tasks that extended beyond even minimal quotidian practices.
