At Adolf's funeral, his son Hans delivered the eulogy and, clearly cowed by his mother's reminder that speaking ill of the dead was verboten, managed twenty minutes of virtual hagiography, making his cruel, tyrannical, yellow-dog bully of a father seem positively saintly, to the point that the congregation, the choir, the ushers, and even the minister began wondering uneasily whether they had mistaken the identity of the deceased and were attending a celebration of the life of some universally beloved champion of the poor.
