Quadrivial Quandary: Logophiles, Rejoice! Each day we give you four unusual words. Can you fit them all in one illustrative sentence?
Quandary Resolution 7244
gerent, avoid like the plague, plangent, in petto, adv.

This morning, when the two Polis from Melrose met the three New Yorkers at the Round Table in the Algonquin, DC Isa Urquhart and DS Milly Millican had one question: "if we are on the top floor, the twelfth, how come we could hear a party going on above us during the night?" at which Hyman Kaplan looked at Sadie Moskowitz and Rose Mitnick before replying: "strictly entre nous, and I know that as Officers of the Law, you guys know how to keep things in petto, did you hear a kinda plangent noise, a deep howling?" and the others sat up at that: "yes, yes, exactly!" so Kaplan continued: "well, avoid the night gerent in the lobby like the plague, he'll tell you but nothing, cause officially there is no 13th floor here, it's not shown on the schematics, you know, blueprints, but it's there – it's served by a private lift which needs a pass-card to access and it's where the Gotham bottom-feeders hang out with members of a highly secret organisation called The Ring of Gold!" which brought a gasp from both Scots Officers, and it was Isa who said: "that was established in the 13th Century by Sir Parlane MacFarlane and Dominic Doubleday!" and Rose asked: "the same two guys being held by the Bronx department of Corrections? how is that possible?" and Milly said: "that's what we're here to find out – we have DNA evidence which ties them to four murders and one attempted in Melrose twenty years ago!"
