Quandary Resolution 779
obnubilate, finagle, phony, quietus
Sean Finagle (the token Irish-American at the Philadelphia law firm of Cheet, Swyndal, Kraphti, DeSaete & Finagle) was happily engaged in altering cash register receipts and forging signatures on phony leases when Mr. Frodd, the firm’s newest associate, entered the office without even knocking and, his usually blank countenance obnubilated by anxiety, choked out the news that Mr. Cheet had just met his quietus at the bottom of the #4 elevator shaft and Mr.Finagle was wanted immediately at an emergency meeting of the remaining partners.
