Plump Jackie and her little sliver of a best friend Norma are among the badauds of our town, much preferring to be passive observers than to participate in any way in community life or even to stand out in the slightest from the herd; no egregious behavior by either of them has ever been reported, with the possible exception of Norma's obsession with her oft-photographed rock garden, for which Jackie (otherwise totally ignorant of botany) frequently buys rare saxicolous plants.
