Quadrivial Quandary: Logophiles, Rejoice! Each day we give you four unusual words. Can you fit them all in one illustrative sentence?
Quandary Resolution 840
ex cathedra, caldera, logomachy, fructuous
When the Drs. Fischer (luminaries of the Geology Department at Penn) returned to their elegant suburban house after an evening at the theater, they discovered that as the result of a serious gas leak nothing remained of it (i.e., the house) but a smoldering hole surrounded by emergency workers, whereupon they commenced an extremely loud, infructuous logomachy concerning whether the hole was a caldera or a crater, a dispute finally stopped by the fire chief who said ex cathedra that it just looked like a damn shame.
