Quadrivial Quandary: Logophiles, Rejoice! Each day we give you four unusual words. Can you fit them all in one illustrative sentence?
Quandary Resolution 981
bread and circuses, nidify, hummock, defenestrate
Looking forward to the arrival of their first child, the Robbins set about nidifying the apartment above the store, which required converting Granny's old room into a nursery, which in turn required finding somewhere to dispose of the untidy hummocks of winter clothes and decades-old news magazines, a task accomplished in the short term by a series of exuberant defenestrations, not an uncommon tactic in their cramped neighborhood where the throwing of unwanted things out of windows (whether yesterday's newspaper, today's potato peelings, or - on occasion - other people) served very well as the sort of bread-and-circuses entertainment that distracts the disenfranchised from their troubles.
